Mr. Broesler’s an art teacher?! For this high school physical education class he was! The activity is called “team drawing,” part of the team building/team communication unit. The students are working together to draw what Mr. Broesler drew on the white board (a stick figure). The students try to coordinate with each other to replicate the drawing. It’s as hard (and fun!) as it looks!

All Delaware Academy fall varsity sports teams have been designated “Scholar Athlete Teams” by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA). To qualify as a team, 75% of a team’s average GPA for the season must be equal to or greater than 90%. Additionally, students received individual scholar-athlete recognition by earning an individual average of 90 or above this winter season, whether their team qualified or not. Last year, Delaware Academy achieved scholar athlete team recognition for all of its varsity sports teams across all three seasons. Shown are representatives from each of the fall varsity sports teams (one was unavailable for photo) with Deputy Superintendent Carey Shultz and Athletic Coordinator Kyle Murray.

Got gnomes? Mrs. Reid-Jackson’s 6th grade art class does! The students created sketches and designed their gnomes, built them by hand, added details and texture and then they were fired. After glazing and firing, they look fabulous! #artisticbulldogs

Educators from Hanford Mills Museum visited the elementary school last month to work with second graders. The students learned about the different ways bad things can get in our water, why it’s important to have clean water, and ways to get the water clean again. There were hands-on activities to help the students understand the processes involved. Thanks to Hanford Mills Museum Educators Soleil and Karen, and to Mrs. Gardner, Mrs. Noonan and Miss Barrett for bringing this fun resource into the classrooms!

On Tuesday, December 17, Delaware Academy Central School at Delhi will ask taxpayers to help the district gain an additional $400,000 by holding a vote on an energy performance contract intended to reduce the district’s energy costs. The project totals $3.6 million and will be fully funded over the 18-year period through state aid and savings in energy costs. There will be no impact on the local school tax levy. What makes this vote unusual is that the project itself is not subject to voter approval, but if a community vote is held and passes, the district can receive an additional 10% in state aid toward project costs, saving about $400,000. There will be a discussion and opportunity to ask questions about the project tonight at the regular Board of Education meeting, beginning at 6:00 pm in the Libarary Media Center. The vote will take place tomorrow (Tuesday, December 17) from noon to 8:00 pm in the Middle School Gymnasium Lobby. Additional information is available on the district webpage: www.delhischools.org/page/energy-performance-contract
