Students in Mr. Santaiti’s Living Environment Biology classes learned about forensic crime scene processing from New York State Police Investigator Matthew Henzler and Trooper Gaetano Candido. Investigator Henzler gave a brief presentation and then the students joined in a hands-on demonstration of fingerprinting with dust. They also learned how forensics investigators determine if a substance is actually blood, and how to take fingerprints off of porous items such as paper. Thanks to NY State Police Troop C for providng this unique learning experience!

Under the guidance of Ms. Randall, Mrs. Gardner’s second grade class started winter-sowing seeds to begin a garden that will (hopefully) supply our cafeteria with fresh veggies and herbs! They met with the cafeteria staff to decide what to grow, and used their knowledge of plant life cycles, the water cycle and seasons to set up their containers. We’ll all be keeping a close eye on the winter garden project!

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., our school district will observe a day off on Monday, January 20. To continue the important conversations about his legacy and his life taking place in our classrooms, our cafeteria staff researched Dr. King's favorite foods and offered a few of these similar options during lunch.
