Instruments were being loaded last Friday for the trip to Norwich High School, where the NYSSMA Zone 8 Solo Festival was taking place. For two days, hundreds of students performed vocal, instrumental or string solos or small ensemble pieces, which were evaluated and rated. 60 Delaware Academy students participated, performing a variety of pieces from level 1 to level 6. Thank you to Mrs. Gibson, Ms. Lindner and Ms. Lamb for helping them prepare for this significant event!

April was Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and members of the DA S.A.D.D. chapter spent the month bringing awareness to the cause. They handed out teal ribbons to all faculty and staff in the middle school and high school to wear on Wednesdays during the month, promoting awareness and sparking excellent questions and conversations. They hung up posters donated by the Safe Against Violence group, who teach prevention education in the school and are a local resource. The students also displayed flyers which shared statistics, information about consent, and both local and school support resources. Several S.A.D.D. members were also guests on the Wednesday morning announcements to share age-appropriate educational information. The month was a success, and the chapter looks forward to raising awareness again next year!

Delaware Academy first graders visited the A.J. Read Science Discovery Center and SUNY Oneonta Planetarium on Friday. The students loved the hands-on nature of the Discovery Center, and enjoyed seeing how earlier generations developed stories using groupings of stars that we know as “constellations.” They got a big surprise when “Red,” the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragon mascot, dropped by just to say hello to them! Thank you to Mrs. Lane, Ms. Mostert and Ms. Wilcox for organizing such a fun field trip!
