Delaware Academy District Superintendent Kelly Zimmerman attended the Rural Schools Association of New York State Winter Conference last week in Saratoga Springs, where she moderated a panel discussion on mental health issues facing schools. RSA also released its 2024 policy brief to state leaders that was partially informed by a Rural Issues Forum held at Delaware Academy last spring. Mrs. Zimmerman, an RSA board member, had the privilege of presenting the RSA Appreciation Award to Dr. Chris Kjolhede, Co-Director of Bassett Healthcare System’s School-Based Health Centers. Bassett's first school-based health center opened 31 years ago at Delaware Academy, and the school is proud of that continuing partnership and the benefits that it brings to our students and families.

Reminder– the Middle School concert is tomorrow night in the high school auditorium. Come enjoy the performances!

Students in Ms. Mostert's first grade class made peanut butter dog biscuits today. They'll donate them to the Heart of the Catskills Humane Society in Delhi. Some will be available for sale at the Heart of the Catskills Humane Society "Holiday for the Heart Tree Celebration" this Saturday at the Delaware County Historical Association (the rest are treats for the dogs at the shelter, of course!). This is the second year Ms. Mostert's class made biscuits to donate.

Delaware Academy Sources of Strength would like to help our students and community train their brains to be more positive, hopeful, and resilient! Writing down three new things we are grateful for each day for 21 days can physically change our brains, creating neural pathways that help our brains focus more on the positive. To build awareness that GRATITUDE is a protective factor, we challenge you to join us in writing down three things you are grateful for for 21 days! Spread the Word!

Our elementary students were treated to a performance by dancers from the Decker School of Ballet, who put together a program of excerpts from The Nutcracker. The annual performance of this famous ballet will take place in Oneonta on December 15 and 16.
