2024 is off to a bang at DA Elementary! Students in Mrs. Reid-Jackson’s art classes have made their mark on the new year: PreK worked on mixed media fireworks and number recognition; fireworks were made with upcycled cut toilet paper rolls dipped in paint and stamped, then they got upcycled numbers from 3rd grade prints and a little glue and glitter to finish them off. Kindergarteners made oil pastel and tempera resist numbers (great practice writing their numbers and date). 3rd grade created positive and negative number prints using metallic tempera paint

Congratulations to members of Delaware Academy’s two Upstate Academic Competition Teams: Cooper Cohen, Rose McPheely, Erin Coppersmith, Sofia Olson, Kaylee Lewis, Seamus deMauro, Rocco Schnabel, Marshall LaPierre and Ben Hadley. Our building & grounds team has been working all morning to keep the snow at bay. We sure do appreciate it!

Today we remember and honor the life and legacy of Dr. King.

Our 6th graders got something interesting in science class this week: fish eggs! “Trout in the Classroom” is a program of Trout Unlimited, and this week members of the group came and set up an aquarium in the science classroom and helped introduce trout eggs to it. Tom Trelease from Trout Unlimited is coordinating the Trout project for Delaware Academy, and leads this effort for all of the areas around the state. The organization provides everything the students need for the project. Students in Mrs. Tash’s classes will grow the trout in the classroom until June, when the 6th graders will release them in the Delaware River at the end of the school year.
