This week, Delaware Academy is excited to be hosting 13 students and their advisors from Wittekind Gymnasium (School) in Lübbecke, Germany. The group is spending a week here, learning about our school, regional community and American culture. Last fall, DA German teacher Terrence Legg and School Counselor Matthew Albright took 11 Delaware Academy students to Germany, and this month’s visit completes the exchange. The German visitors are shown with their American hosts in front of the high school Thursday.
The month of April was Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and members of our S.A.D.D. chapter undertook a number of actions to bring awareness to the cause. They wore t-shirts saying “Educate. Empower, Prevent. Sexual Assault Awareness,” and handed out teal pins to all faculty and staff in the middle and high schools to wear on Wednesdays during the month, which brought awareness and sparked excellent questions and conversations. They hung up posters donated by the local Safe Against Violence organization, and flyers created by our S.A.D.D. student president Natalie Anderson which shared statistics, information about consent, and local and school resources to connect with support. Several S.A.D.D. members were also guests on the Wednesday morning announcements to share age-appropriate educational information. The month was a success, and the chapter looks forward to raising awareness again next year!

Congratulations to Delaware Academy’s student scholar Rocco Schnabel and mentor Sarah Morgan! For over 20 years, the Scholar Recognition Program has celebrated the achievements of top students from the DCMO and ONC BOCES regions, and the mentors who inspire them. They will be honored in a ceremony at SUNY Oneonta on May 12. Congratulations, Rocco and Mrs. Morgan!
Our Middle School Orchestra, Chorus and Band presented a Young People's Concert last Thursday in the high school auditorium. Our 4th and 5th graders enjoyed the performances, and learned a little bit more about the different instruments and voice parts. Thank you, Mrs. Gibson, Miss Lamb and Ms. Lindner!

A group of juniors have announced the creation of the “D.A. Care Closet,” a new initiative that aims to help students who may lack basic essentials like hygiene items and clothing with the items they need to feel confident and supported. The Care Closet will be stocked with new items purchased for the closet, and the group is seeking donations from the community to help purchase them. The students were prompted to develop this service project through their participation in Catskill Area School Study Council conferences.
Mindy Robinson, Research Coordinator from Bassett Research Institute in Cooperstown and Liaison for Wilmont Cancer Institute in Rochester, spoke with students in Mr. Broesler’s classes today about the negative health effects of smoking. With slides, quizzes, prizes and demonstrations, she had their attention!
Delaware Academy CSD at Delhi will hold a Special Board of Education Meeting and Budget Workshop on Monday, April 7, 2025 at 5:00 pm in the High School Library Media Center. The Special Meeting of the Board of Education, to discuss and approve the Capital Project bids and contracts, will begin at 5:00 p.m. and the Budget Workshop, to review the proposed budget, will follow the Special Meeting. Here are some photos of work created in Mrs. Reid-Jackson's Community Action Service Art class. Students used clay to create recovery-related stamps with inspirational/uplifting messages. They used the stamps to create small, handheld tiles, which they then glazed and fired, and donated to the local agency "Turning Point - Friends of Recovery" earlier this week. They were very appreciative of our students' thoughtfulness and creativity!
