Nine students in Mr. Kline’s Environmental Science class have been involved in a unique learning experience. Since October, the students have been working with NYS Department of Environmental Conservation Regional Fisheries Manager Chris VanMaaren, researching the impacts of the rusty crayfish (an invasive species) on the native crayfish in the Little Delaware River. In February, they attended the New York Chapter of the American Fisheries Society 59th Annual Meeting at the Sagamore Resort in Bolton Landing, NY. They attended lectures and presentations, and presented a poster, which gave them an opportunity to discuss their research with meeting attendees, answer related questions, and receive suggestions for continued research. It was a long but rewarding day!

The four-man team representing Section IV finished 8th out of 11 starting teams in Saturday's Boys 4000m Distance Medley Relay Championship, held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island. DA's Nelson VanMaaren gave a strong performance as one of the four. Well done, Nelson!
