The Middle School Concert was on Tuesday night, and the ensembles delivered quite a show for an appreciative audience! There were performances by the concert band, chorus, jazz band and orchestra, and even a surprise "guest conductor" during the John Williams Medley! Thanks to Ms. Lindner, Miss Lamb and Mrs. Gibson for preparing this fabulous concert, and to Jane Curley for providing accompaniment.

Students had a safe and enjoyable time at the prom on Saturday. A generous donation from Delaware County STOP-DWI helped provide 50 pizzas to students who stayed through the conclusion of prom and the coronation of the Prom King and Queen. Several STOP-DWI awareness messages, designed by Maddison Naples, a member of the DA S.A.D.D. chapter, were displayed on the pizza boxes to help remind students of the dangers and consequences of drinking and driving. Thanks to Delaware County STOP-DWI for their generous support and to Francesca’s Pizzeria & Restaurant for preparing 50 pizzas and accommodating the special pickup time. The pizzas were a huge hit with students and helped make the evening even more memorable! Thank you to everyone who helped promote safe and responsible choices, helping make prom night a great success!

Congratulations to DA senior Hailey Brandenburg. Hailey is a Career & Technical Education student in the Conservation & Heavy Equipment Program at DCMO BOCES. CTE students take the skilled trades they’ve learned and apply them in the local workforce after graduation, helping meet the demand of the local economy. This week, Hailey and other students at the DCMO BOCES Harrold Campus in Sidney Center were recognized for this important milestone with a signing ceremony. Hailey’s instructors described her as “a very accomplished student,” who “isn’t afraid to attack any task given to her, is always respectful and has been a pleasure to have in class.” They said “she will have no problem finding success in the field.” Hailey will be joining the Town of Andes Highway Department after graduation, and along with the Andes Deputy Highway Superintendent, signed a certificate confirming that intention at the ceremony. Congratulations, Hailey we’re proud of your commitment to the workforce!

Our first graders visited O'Connor Hospital last week, and an exciting visit it was! They learned about x-rays, making casts, and some of the many ways the medical providers in the emergency room can help a sick or injured patient. They also learned about medical transportation, seeing a Delhi Fire Department EMS ambulance and a LifeNet of New York helicopter and crew. The hospital even provided lunch! Thank you Ms. Mostert, Ms. Lane, Ms. Wilcox and all the adult helpers on this trip, and a big thank you to O'Connor Hospital for hosting this fun and educational visit!

Miss Sherman, Mrs. Sherman, and Mrs. Sommers collaborated with Chris McCall-Hopkins and Jeremy Burke from DCMO BOCES, along with Anna Hillis and Mike Monasky from Visions Federal Credit Union, to organize and facilitate an engaging and educational “Life is a Reality” simulation event Thursday. The event brought together students from the 10th Grade Career Exploration classes and seniors from Mr. All’s Senior Seminar class to participate in a hands-on real-world financial simulation.

During the activity, students selected a career path and navigated through a variety of stations that represented real-life financial responsibilities and decision-making. Stations included topics such as college loans, housing, car purchases/ transportation, utilities, clothing expenses, entertainment, savings, phone and internet and more. Throughout the simulation, students were challenged to balance their budgets while making important financial choices based on their assigned careers and salaries. To make the experience even more realistic, a “Life Happens” wheel was spun periodically throughout the event, creating unexpected situations—both positive and negative—that required students to adapt their budgets and financial plans. These curveballs helped students understand how quickly life circumstances can change and the importance of financial planning and decision-making.

The event provided students with a meaningful opportunity to experience the realities of adulthood in an interactive and memorable way while reinforcing important career readiness and financial literacy.
