Friday was Field Day for the middle school, and a fun one it was! With bounce houses, spin art, dodgeball and other activities, there was a lot to enjoy. It was also the end-of-the-year barbeque, which the high schoolers joined in on. And the whole middle school gave a spelling demonstration on Dave Kelly Field, with the teachers and staff adding a little punctuation!

Last week, healthcare for humans and animals came together at DA in an engaging and memorable learning experience. What started as an internship exploration for seniors interested in ultrasound and radiology turned into an unforgettable hands-on learning experience. SUNY Delhi Licensed Veterinary Technician Bill Sherman (assisted by Melody Youngs) visited DA with a portable ultrasound machine and one of Bill’s bernese mountain dogs (Winnie), providing students with a unique hands-on demonstration. They gained valuable knowledge about ultrasound technology, including how ultrasound machines work, why they are used, and the important role they play in healthcare. The experience also highlighted the similarities between human and animal anatomy and physiology, giving students a broader perspective on medical imaging. DCMO BOCES Work Experience Coordinator Christine McCall-Hopkins facilitated the visit as part of her work in the district through the Career Destinations program. “Helping students explore their career interests in ways they may never have considered is so important,” she said. “They deserve opportunities to discover that there are many avenues available to them when they are open to exploring new possibilities. Experiences like this broaden perspectives, spark curiosity, and help students envision exciting paths for their futures.”

Students had a safe and enjoyable time at the prom on Saturday. A generous donation from Delaware County STOP-DWI helped provide 50 pizzas to students who stayed through the conclusion of prom and the coronation of the Prom King and Queen. Several STOP-DWI awareness messages, designed by Maddison Naples, a member of the DA S.A.D.D. chapter, were displayed on the pizza boxes to help remind students of the dangers and consequences of drinking and driving. Thanks to Delaware County STOP-DWI for their generous support and to Francesca’s Pizzeria & Restaurant for preparing 50 pizzas and accommodating the special pickup time. The pizzas were a huge hit with students and helped make the evening even more memorable! Thank you to everyone who helped promote safe and responsible choices, helping make prom night a great success!

Congratulations to DA senior Hailey Brandenburg. Hailey is a Career & Technical Education student in the Conservation & Heavy Equipment Program at DCMO BOCES. CTE students take the skilled trades they’ve learned and apply them in the local workforce after graduation, helping meet the demand of the local economy. This week, Hailey and other students at the DCMO BOCES Harrold Campus in Sidney Center were recognized for this important milestone with a signing ceremony. Hailey’s instructors described her as “a very accomplished student,” who “isn’t afraid to attack any task given to her, is always respectful and has been a pleasure to have in class.” They said “she will have no problem finding success in the field.” Hailey will be joining the Town of Andes Highway Department after graduation, and along with the Andes Deputy Highway Superintendent, signed a certificate confirming that intention at the ceremony. Congratulations, Hailey we’re proud of your commitment to the workforce!
