Delaware Academy will host a Meet the Candidates Forum on Monday, May 11 at 6:00 pm in the high school auditorium, followed by the district Budget Hearing at 7:00 pm. The candidates forum will feature an hour of Q & A with candidates Kim Shephard, Nathaniel McCarthy and Hope Dellacrosse Knapp, hosted by the Speech & Debate Club. The Budget Hearing will be an opportunity to learn more about the proposed budget and propositions.
Local radio broadcaster Nate Lull was at Delaware Academy Wednesday for the Next Level Commitment Event. He introduced four seniors committing to play a sport in college. Athletic Coordinator Kyle Murray also spoke at the event, which was organized by the DA Varsity Club. We wish our senior athletes well on their next teams!

Writer Rosa Rankin-Gee visited Mrs. Ainsworth’s classroom last week for a workshop with creative writing students. She talked about her path to becoming a full-time writer, the inspirations and challenges, and offered advice, opinions and answered student questions. Rosa Rankin-Gee has written two best-selling novels, The Last King of Sark and Dreamland; the latter is being adapted for a BBC series that will shoot this summer. Her third book, My Only Boy, will be released on May 21. She is married to Leah Wawro, a Delaware Academy graduate, and they split their time between London and New York City.

The Catskill Mountain Shakespeare group visited Delaware Academy last week, giving a 90-minute performance of Hamlet for grades 8-12 and offering a Q&A session and theater workshops later in the day. The troupe was dynamic, the students were engaged, and everyone enjoyed the drama it brought to a Thursday!

Area school superintendents joined DCMO BOCES District Superintendent Michael Rullo at Delaware Academy on Friday for a meeting of chief school administrators from the DCMO BOCES component schools. The group meets monthly for discussions and conversations; the superintendents were able to see the results of a number of recent capital projects at the school during a walking tour with DA Superintendent Carey Shultz.
The New York State Sportswriters Association has released the Class C all-state teams in boy’s basketball for the 2025/26 season, and three of our Bulldogs made the list: Lucas Nealis - 4th team, Teddy Kelsh - 9th Team, and Benny Schnabel, Honorable Mention. Congratulations!
Students in the concert band and senior orchestra traveled to Heritage at the Plains at Parish Homestead, a senior living center in Oneonta. Following performances by the concert band, orchestra and several soloists, they visited the Kartrite Resort, an indoor waterpark in Monticello, N.Y. It was a full but fun day!
This week, students in Mrs. Grasso’s 8th grade ELA class performed passages from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream before an enthusiastic audience. The students spent the last several weeks preparing, watching professional performances, acting scenes in front of the class, and more recently, memorizing their lines. Bravo!

Over 60 Delaware Academy juniors and sophomores attended the College & Career Fair at SUNY Delhi on Wednesday. The students had the opportunity to talk with representatives from dozens of colleges, military branches, businesses and career-focused organizations.
