Students in Delaware Academy Agriculture Technology teacher Michelle Somers’ classes participated from their classroom. The virtual tour was live-streamed to thousands of students across the country, and included questions from the audience and quizzes throughout the broadcast.

Exciting news: beginning Wednesday, November 1, Delaware Academy will offer school meals at no charge to all students! Students in Mr. Kline’s 2nd period Environmental Science class are shown answering questions related to the location of sunrise, sunset and the apparent path of the Sun across the sky, as would be viewed by an observer in New York State at different seasons of the year. The PVC pipe model celestial hemisphere is representing the horizon, a north-south meridian, an east-west meridian and the arc of the Sun across the celestial hemisphere on the equinoxes and solstices. It was built by Mr Kline using materials from a local hardware store, and was also used in other science classes taught by Mr. Kline and Mr. Backus.

Congratulations to the varsity football team for their 49-7 victory over Deposit-Hancock today. On to the sectionals!

Yesterday at Unadilla Valley, the Delhi/SK cross country boys team placed 10 in the top 15 to win their 11th straight MAC team title, and the girls placed 7 in the top 15 over state-ranked competition to secure their 17th championship in a row. Special congratulations to individual MAC Champions Nelson VanMaaren and Ellie Lees!

Several students participated in a Sources of Strength Peer Leadership training this week. Sources of Strength is a mental health promotion and suicide prevention program that aims to prevent adverse outcomes by increasing wellbeing, help-seeking, resiliency, healthy coping, and belonging. Each year a group of students, nominated by peers, are trained as Peer Leaders and are connected with Adult Advisors at school. Peer Leaders will be tasked with designing and implementing "campaigns" throughout the school year which help students identify and utilize multiple sources of support. High School Guidance Counselor Amanda Kane is the Sources of Strength coordinator.

Congratulations to the DA/SK cross country teams for a great performance today, winning the MAC Championship (both boys and girls!) Woo-hoo!

Science teachers Mark Kline and John Backus and 12 students from the Delaware Academy Science Club joined students from South Kortright CSD, Stamford CSD, Jefferson CSD and Charlotte Valley CSD for a hike on Bramley Mountain, noting features of the natural environment they were in, discussing climate change and actions people could take to reduce their ecological footprint and adopt more sustainable practices. Students from each school worked on action plans to apply in their school and community to help educate others. The all-day event was organized and led by South Kortright CSD science teacher Dawn Brown.

The American Red Cross blood drive held at the school today was a big success! Sponsored by the Delaware Academy Student Senate, the drive collected 23 pints of blood. Thanks to the student senators and other volunteers for helping at the event, and a big thank you to all who donated blood today!
