At a special meeting Thursday night, the Delaware Academy Board of Education named the current Assistant Superintendent for Business and Personnel, Carey Shultz, to the position of Deputy Superintendent, pending issuance of his formal School District Leader (SDL) certification. In this role, Mr. Shultz will handle the day-to-day leadership of the school district while he completes the SDL certification process. Michael Rullo, District Superintendent of DCMO BOCES, will serve as the Interim District Superintendent of record for the school district.
Tammy Neumann, President of the Board of Education, indicated that Mr. Schulz will provide a stable transition and is well-qualified to lead the school district in the coming years. “We’ve worked closely with Carey for the past nine years and have the utmost respect for him. He’s proven to us many, many times that he’s ready for this transition.”
Mr. Shultz joined the district as Business Administrator in 2015, and is currently certified as a School District Business Leader (SDBL). “It is an honor to take on this new role at Delaware Academy,” he said. “I look forward to continuing the relationships I have grown over the years with both the staff and community of DA. I appreciate the continued support received over the past 9 years and am truly thankful for this opportunity.”
According to Mrs. Neumann, the Board of Education is prepared to name Mr. Shultz District Superintendent as soon as his updated administration certification is received. “It’s just a process, we have to go step by step. I fully anticipate naming Carey as superintendent by mid-July,” she said. “While we will miss Kelly and wish her well, we are very excited to welcome Carey to this new role.”
