Luciane Smith has been named Valedictorian and Rebecca Verspoor will be Salutatorian of the Class of 2026 at Delaware Academy Central School at Delhi.
Luciane is member of the varsity soccer team, serving as captain for two seasons. She is a member of the Spanish Club, Varsity Club, Ski Club, and works with elementary students through a school mentorship program. She participates in Catskill Area School Study Council Leadership Conferences, is the treasurer of the local National Honor Society chapter, and served this school year as one of two student members of the Board of Education. Luciene plans to attend Binghamton University, majoring in biochemistry, with a goal of attending dental school and starting her own dental practice.
Rebecca is a busy and active student, participating in a wide range of activities. She was a member of the volleyball, basketball and softball teams, and represented Section IV on the NYSPHSAA Student Athlete A Council. Musically, she has been a member of the school’s Jazz Band, Orchestra and Chorus, and she has participated in school musicals, NYSSMA recitals, All-County, Area All-State, and Veteran’s Day assemblies. She participates in Catskill Area School Study Council Leadership Conferences, and is or has been a member of the National Honor Society, Youth Alive Club, Spanish Club, SOS, Varsity Club, and Peer Mentor program. She has supported a number of community events as a volunteer, including Community Thanksgiving Dinners, Fall Carnivals, and Family Fun Nights hosted by her church, as well as volunteering as a Rec Team member at a summer kids camp. Rebecca plans to attend Grace College in Indiana, majoring in Mathematics Education, with a goal of becoming a high school math teacher and volleyball coach.
Delaware Academy Central School District at Delhi will hold its 206th commencement ceremony at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 27 at the school.
