PRESS RELEASE

FOR RELEASE ON 12/20/19

The Delaware Academy Board of Education has received a notice of resignation from Superintendent Jason Thomson who has served the district for the last nine years.  Thomson is leaving Delaware Academy after accepting the position of Superintendent of Schools at Ichabod Crane Central School District, located in Kinderhook.

“This was a very tough decision for me as I have truly loved and cherished the past nine years here at Delaware Academy,” said Thomson.  “I am very proud of our numerous achievements that we have accomplished together as a community”.

Thomson continued that he is proud that Delaware Academy is recognized as one of the top schools locally and in the region, as well as nationally for its academic achievements over the past several years.

“Our students, faculty and staff are exceptional and I am confident Delaware Academy Central School District will continue to carry on its longstanding tradition of academic excellence.”

Board Chairperson Elizabeth Huneke underscored Thomson’s sentiments.

“We thank Jason for his hard work and collaboration with our students, faculty and staff over the last nine years.  Delaware Academy is in excellent programmatic and financial condition with a strong leadership team that is committed to moving the District forward. We wish Jason the best in his new role at Ichabod Crane.”

Board Vice Chairperson Tammy Neumann expressed her support of DA’s faculty.

“The core of Delaware Academy has always been great teachers.  The School Board, Mr. Thomson, and the rest of the DA leadership team are committed to supporting our faculty through a smooth and positive transition.  We anticipate no major program changes during the transition, so our excellent faculty members can continue to provide the very best instruction to our students, during and after the transition to a new superintendent.”

The Board of Education at Delaware Academy will conduct a special meeting on January 2nd to announce interim leadership plans.
