June 2021 Community Update

Dear Delaware Academy Families and Friends,

The end of the school year always prompts simultaneous reflection and excitement for what’s to come.  This has been a year like no other.  While I can believe that we successfully navigated every challenge that came our way, I can’t believe we’re nearing the end.  This year illustrated the true meaning of collaboration, optimism, resilience, and community.  Together, we have accomplished so much.  In doing so, we emerged as a leader in academics, earning High Honors by the U.S. News and World Report, ranking among the top school districts in the nation.  This could not have been done without our dedicated team of educators, students, families, and community members, who together believed in our district’s vision for the future, even in the face of significant adversity.  We truly made the impossible possible at every turn.

As we approach the end of the school year, we are looking forward to many celebratory events.  Following current Covid guidelines, we will be holding an outdoor graduation ceremony, prom, end-of-year banquets and Tractor Day.  We held kindergarten registration this week and can’t wait to meet many new faces in the fall.

Speaking of the fall, we are also busy planning for a full return to in-person learning on September 7, 2021.  At this time, we do not anticipate offering a remote-only option, unless required to do so given further guidance from NYSED.  The 2021-2022 Instructional Calendar can be found on our website or by clicking this LINK.  We are also in the early planning stages for opening a Universal Pre-Kindergarten classroom, given recent federal grant funding.  This is an exciting opportunity and we were thrilled to be notified of this grant.  This program will be limited to 18 students and filled through a lottery system starting with a pre-registration process.  Details regarding pre-registration will be shared on June 15.  Please do not contact the district prior to that time, as we are not collecting information from interested families yet.  I will continue to write to you through the summer, via a monthly update, to provide important information for the upcoming school year.

At this time, I’d like to extend my heartfelt wishes for a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable summer to everyone in our Delaware Academy Family.  Please keep your children reading and playing!  A wise mentor once told me that, “The windshield is larger than the rearview mirror.  Keep looking forward.”  I invite you to join us as we continue moving forward on our journey of continuous improvement and greatness.

Sincerely,

Kelly Zimmerman
