Delaware Academy would like to extend a warm welcome to Interim MS/HS Principal Mr. Robert Mr. Mackey is an excellent locally-sourced leader, with two decades of administrative leadership experience. Mr. Mackey has served as Superintendent of schools for Downsville Central in Delaware county, and more recently rural Unadilla Valley Central School District, retiring in 2021 after 13 years of service to that community.

Mr. Mackey graduated from SUNY Oneonta in 1987 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Social Science Secondary Education and Political Science. In 1992, he graduated from Vermont College of Norwich University with a Masters of Arts in Education Development and School Administration.  I continue to focus on learning in an effort to improve my teaching, coaching, and instructional leadership skills; as well as model lifelong learning for others.

Mr. Mackey and his wife, Barbara, are both career educators. They have chosen to remain in central New York and raise their three children, Garrett, Nate, and Nicole. Mr. Mackey started teaching high school social studies and coaching in 1987 and began his school administration career in 1994.  Beginning in 2001, he served as Superintendent at Downsville Central School until becoming Superintendent of the Unadilla Valley Central School District in 2007, retiring in July 2021.

Throughout his career, Mr. Mackey has focused on providing children cutting edge opportunities to learn and grow as a person. The results of these efforts are never accomplished without creating a culture of collaboration that encourages students and staff to focus on learning, results, and action. Risk taking is always encouraged and failure is celebrated as an opportunity to learn.
