Welcome to the Home of the Delaware Academy Bulldogs

On September 15th the following press release was issued by the Section IV Athletic Association...

                                                      Section IV Athletic Association

After much League and Section IV discussions, in the interest of student health & safety and with financial concerns due to New York State aid to Education cuts, Section IV member schools have voted 59 YES; 10 NO; 1 abstention to postpone the Section IV Fall Sport Season to the NYSPHSAA Fall Sports Season II with a start date of March 1, 2021.

With this guidance in hand it assures Delaware Academy and our student athletes that all schools in our region will be adhering to the same sport seasons, providing us the opportunity and time necessary to implement sound guidelines necessary to keep our students safe.  Making this decision unilaterally across Section IV will provide us with greater opportunity for competition in our area when sports resume, including the potential for league and sectional championships.  Following this announcement there are many details yet to be determined by Section IV. As a member of the MAC League and Section IV it's helpful to know we are all in this together.  At this point Delaware Academy is in the process of collaboratively determining guidelines to address health and safety measures and schedules for off-season practices.  It is our goal to provide our students with meaningful off-season athletic experiences in the near future.  I understand there may still be questions.  We are committed to communicating information to you as our plans develop and it becomes available.

Stay well,

Jeffrey Ferrara

Special message regarding Athletics- 9-14-2020

Delaware Academy has been involved in multiple recent meetings around our state, section and league to discuss the reopening of athletics within our region.  On Friday September 11th the Midstate Athletic Conference voted to postpone athletics until January 4th, 2021.  This was not an easy decision as we understand the importance of athletics in the social, emotional and physical well-being of our students.  This will provide our district and surrounding districts ample time to review data from the reopening of our schools as well as develop proper safety guidelines that will keep our athletes safe when sports do start later in the academic year.  Prior to this decision some sports were at risk of losing their season. This move has secured opportunity for all athletes at Delaware Academy in all sports.  Starting in January we will play winter sports, followed by traditional fall sports, and finishing with our traditional spring sports.  At this point I’ll hold off on providing exact dates until we get closer to play, as has been typical over the last 7 months everything is subject to change.  The district is now working to develop protocols for off season training practices.  We are hopeful in the near future to have the opportunity to allow all students to start off season workouts. Details are to follow.  I understand at this time there will be a multitude of questions, we are working hard to be able to provide you with answers and further certainties in the coming weeks.  I hope everyone is well and I’m excited to watch your athletes again as we turn the calendar to 2021. As always, we at DA appreciate your patience and understanding as we work together to provide opportunities for our athletes in the safest possible manner.

 Mission Statement

To create an environment focused on pride, unity and character; where student-athletes demonstrate a strong social conscience.  The Delaware Academy Athletic Department considers athletics an integral part of education.  It is our goal to give our student athletes the tools and skills to achieve this mission. Being a part of a team not only promotes a healthy lifestyle but provides multiple opportunities for skill enhancement, competition, collaboration, and cooperation. We also believe that physical fitness, discipline and success can help promote academic success, and we expect that our athletes take pride in their performance in the classroom as well as on the field. While we strive to build competitive, winning teams, our primary mission is to promote the values of education, school spirit and fair play.
