MS/HS Community Survey 2020

Dear Delaware Academy Middle/High School Students and Families,

As we approach the 15-week mark of the 2020-2021 school year, we have much to celebrate.  We have continued to keep our schools open to in-person learning to the greatest extent possible given the many new challenges that positive Covid cases, contact tracing, and quarantines have brought upon us.  We have maintained a focus on continuity of high quality instruction and engaged in numerous efforts to reach all learners.  We have found creative ways to maintain “old” traditions in a Covid-safe way.  We have successfully provided extra-curricular and athletic opportunities for our students.  We enjoyed our first Snow Day!

One of our District Goals is to “engage in data-informed practices to ensure continuous improvement in student outcomes.”  Following the first quarter of school this year, students, teachers and parents shared feedback on their current experience related to school during the pandemic.  The most frequent feedback has surrounded the themes of increased workload, needed time for planning high quality instruction for multiple modes of instruction, and the increased need for individualized student support.  Although Delaware Academy has persevered in making the "impossible possible" this year, many students and teachers are reporting high levels of stress and fatigue.

Specifically, teachers have asked for more time to prepare lessons, review student work, and attend to remote learners.  Students have asked for more time to catch up on work and the ability to receive more face-to-face assistance from teachers.  This has led to the suggestion of alternative ways to use our Wednesdays.  However, we know that one size doesn't fit all.  So, in an attempt to maintain flexibility while meeting the greatest number of needs in our school and community, we are asking for feedback from our MS/HS students and families in consideration of this.

We have created a survey in which our MS/HS students and families can provide us with this feedback.  Our teachers have already completed it and now we need your input.  The survey can be accessed by clicking the linked image above.  Any resulting changes will be communicated before they take place.  Thank you for your participation and for sharing your ideas!

Sincerely,

Kelly M. Zimmerman

Superintendent
