Dear Delaware Academy Families,
The start of the 2022-2023 school year is right around the corner and I am excited to welcome our staff and students back to school for another successful year. The first day of school for students is Tuesday, September 6. Elementary classroom assignments are being sent this week. Middle and high school schedules are now available on PowerSchool. Please contact the main office of your child’s school if you need assistance accessing a schedule.
We have been working hard this year to ensure continued high quality instructional opportunities for our students and in doing so have welcomed several new teachers and staff. We have also welcomed Ms. Deborah Liddle, our new Middle School Principal who will also serve as our Director of Special Education. Information on new staff members can be found on our website.
Speaking of our website, we have also begun migrating to a new and improved website for this fall. We hope that it will provide a more “user friendly” interface for our community to readily access needed information. Once our website is fully functioning, we will also be adding a mobile phone app for quick and convenient access on the go.
Finally, thank you for your support and dedication to our district as together we navigated a challenging two years in the midst of a global pandemic. It wasn’t always easy, but your diligence, feedback, and understanding resulted in our success. As we enter this new year, the NYS Education Department and NYS Department of Health have released updated guidance based on CDC recommendations. Based on these updates, Delaware Academy will proceed as follows:
∙ Daily mask use for students and staff will remain optional unless an individual tests positive for Covid-19. ∙ Students and staff who test positive for Covid-19 should isolate for five (5) days at home. Individuals may return to school after five (5) days if they are fever-free without fever reducing medicine for 24 hours, their symptoms are improving, and they wear a mask through day ten (10).
∙ Contact tracing is no longer required and individuals exposed to Covid no longer have to quarantine. Mask wearing following a known exposure is recommended.
∙ Test-to-Stay programs are no longer required.
∙ Weekly testing of unvaccinated staff is no longer required.
∙ Social distancing is no longer required. Classroom and cafeteria seating will return to normal.

Sincerely,
Kelly M. Zimmerman
