The Delaware Academy Bands Earn Superior Ratings at the High Note Festival

The Delaware Academy Bands recently participated in the High Note Festival at the Great Escape Theme Park in Lake George, NY. The Bands performed at the Christ Church in Glens Falls on Friday, May 29.  Glenn Giles and Paul Kafer, festival adjudicators and music professors from Castleton State College in Vermont, evaluated the individual performances of the Delaware Academy High School Concert Band and the Delhi Middle School Band.  This is the eleventh year that the bands have performed at the High Note Festival, a Festival that involves the adjudication of ensembles from various states during weekends in May and June.   The Delaware Academy Middle School earned a Superior Rating (91%) and Trophy for its Level 2 performances and the Concert Band earned a Superior Rating (91%) and Trophy for its Level 3 performances.

The Delaware Academy Middle School Band under the direction of Mrs. Diane Krick performed Best Day of My Life arr. by James Kazik, Grand Canyon Overture by James Swearingen and Dorchester Concert March by Eric Osterling.  The Delaware Academy Concert Band under the direction of Mrs. Krick performed Prelude and Fugue in Bb Major by J.S. Bach/Transcribed by R. Moehlmann and  Michael Jackson:  Through the Years arr. by Michael Brown

During the performance, the adjudicators recorded their comments for students’ future reference.  The band members were encouraged by the positive comments.  The evaluation reinforced the students’ understanding of musical concepts and performance techniques.  After the performance, the two bands were presented their ratings and trophies.  The two adjudicators were impressed with the musicality and the quality performances of the two bands.

After the morning performance, the 66 students and their chaperones enjoyed the rides and entertainment at The Great Escape Six Flags Theme Park.  Congratulations to the members of the Delaware Academy Bands and thanks to all those who made this Festival a meaningful learning experience for the students.

The Band also performed a medley of marches from the armed forces and the Orchestra performed a medley of patriotic favorites. The Delaware Academy Marching Band and Colorguard performed in the O’Connor Holiday Parade on December 6, earning a 2nd place trophy and a respectable monetary award in the school band competition. The marching band, comprised of students in grades 6-12, played an upbeat arrangement of Katy Perry’s Roar. All of our Middle School and High School performing groups participated in the 2014 Winter Concert on December 11.
