On October 12, 1819, Delaware Academy was chartered by the New York State Legislature as a private boarding school. Today, as a public, centralized school district, continually certified by the Board of Regents since December 12, 1902, we find an average enrollment of 803 students in grades K-12. These students are housed in three buildings within the district, which covers 200 square miles in the Catskill Mountain area of New York State. The largest community within the district is Delhi, the county seat of Delaware County and the home of SUNY Delhi College of Technology, a two/four year college in the State University of New York system. Education and county government are the main sources of employment, with recreation and agriculture also large contributors. The class of 2009 numbered 80 students, with 49% entering four year colleges and 50% attending two year schools. 93% of our graduates earned a NY State Regents or an advanced Reg. diploma and 21% earned Honor Graduate status, with a 4-year average of 90% or better. DA is essentially an academic high school where students are heterogeneously grouped. Approximately 96% of the Class of 2009 took the SAT and/or ACT with a verbal mean of 525, and a math mean of 523, and a writing mean of 520. Curriculum
DA offers approximately 120 different courses. The average experience of our faculty is in excess of 14 years. Over 90% of our staff hold advanced degrees. Due to the close proximity of SUNY Delhi, some of our Juniors and Seniors take college classes for college credit. DA also offers five Advanced Placement courses, in addition to the eight courses that are offered for college credit at various institutions. The high school grading system is numerical, with a passing grade of 70. All final grades from credit bearing courses are used to establish an accumulative average. The school year is divided into two semesters with report cards each ten weeks. No summer sessions are offered in the academic areas. __________________________________________________________________________________________ 2009-2010 Enrollment
