Academic Intervention Services (AIS)
AIS is a team approach providing services that focus on the learning needs of the students who are at risk of not achieving the district’s educational goals as specified in the Comprehensive District Education Plan.
The AIS program will:
- Identify the barriers preventing children from achieving the educational goals and standards.
- Provide appropriate interventions to eliminate those barriers.
- Utilize data to identify the child's specific learning needs.
- Provide continuous assessment to assure student success in the regular classroom.
The AIS teachers will work in collaboration with the child’s classroom teacher to establish a program that meets the individual needs of the child. The AIS teacher will review the documentation in the child’s academic record and confer with their current and previous teachers to develop strategies to help the child be successful in meeting the academic standards.
Some parents have the opinion that AIS is a sign of failure. It is not. In fact it is to prevent failure. AIS is intended to provide additional coverage of content, skills, and concepts so your child is ready to meet or exceed the state assessments beginning at the 3rd grade and culminating at the high school (Regents) level.
