Board 2School-Wide Programs
OLWEUS
(pronounced Ol-VAY-us)
In July 2012, the NYS Dignity for All Act went into effect. This legislation was passed to address the issue of bullying and protect the rights of students, parents, and staff involved in bullying situations. In order to help us in our efforts to prevent and address bullying in our district, we will be implementing the OLWEUS Bullying Prevention Program in grades K-12. OLWEUS is one of the few research-based programs available and has been implemented in schools around the world. It is a comprehensive approach to bullying that goes beyond the classroom and teaches all faculty and staff not only how to identify bullying, but how to address it effectively.
More information on this program will be provided throughout the school year and you may hear your child mention some changes that he/she has noticed at school. Our hope is that this program will help us to educate out staff, students, and community on the issue of bullying so that we can work together to prevent it!
