About the Delaware Academy Music Department

Delhi has a strong tradition of excellence in music. Performing groups include Concert Band, Orchestra, and Choir at the Elementary, Middle, and High School levels. Many of the performing ensembles perform for NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) Evaluation Festivals (NYSSMA Majors), as well as other adjudicated festivals and have earned high ratings. A large percentage of students also participate in the NYSSMA Solo and Ensemble Festivals each year as well as the Delaware County All-County ensembles, Area All-State ensembles, and All-State ensembles.

Bands, Orchestras, and Choirs are credited classes at Delhi that offer students an exciting opportunity to learn about music and perform for their peers, parents, and community. Students enrolled in band or orchestra also receive one small-group instruction lesson period each week on their particular instrument. Credited electives in the high school include Music Theory, Music History, and Guitar Class. Co-curricular music activities include High School Jazz Band, High School Jazz Choir, as well as opportunities to perform in the musical each year.

Students are able to enroll in one, two, or all three performing ensembles. Many students will participate in Band and Chorus or Orchestra and Chorus. This is encouraged because it offeres two diverse musical experiences. Students who have never played a band or an orchestra instrument after 4th grade are also encouraged to enroll and begin lessons regardless of what grade they are in. In addition to the performing ensembles, general music classes are provided for all Elementary and Middle School students. These classes teach music skills and music appreciation. Skills learned in performing ensembles will have tremendous positive influences on the growth of a student. Delhi takes great pride in the variety of musical experiences it offers to the students of this district.

End of the year events!!

• 2008 Memorial Day Parades: click here for parade times, drop-off/pick-up times and venues, band shirt ordering info., and permission slip.

• 2008 High-Note Festival Band Trip at Great Escape in Lake George, NY will be on May 30, 2008. Permission slips and $20.00 student fee is due February 14, 2008. Chaperones fee is $20 and is due by April 10th. Click here to print the information and permission slip.

• M.S. and H.S. Spring Band Concert: June 4, 2008 at 7:00 pm in the High School Auditorium. (High School Bands Call Time: 6:15pm)

• Dairy Fest: Performances by the M.S. Band and the H.S. Jazz Band on June 14th. M.S. Band call time at D.A. to meet the bus is 10:15; performance at 11:00 am. The H.S. Jazz Band call time is 10:45 a.m. at Dairy Fest (H.S. transportation on your own. There will be no bus.) and performance time is 11:45-12:15.

• Delhi Elementary Concert: June 17, 2008 at 7:00 pm in the High School Auditorium.

• Graduation: June 28, 2008 10:00 am; Call Time- 9:30 am.

• All students need to submit a health form that is kept on record and confidential with the band director. Because we do a lot of performances away from school, this form is used only in the case of an emergency. Your child may not participate in ANY out-of-school trips until this is on file with his/her respective band director. If your child has not brought this form home (it was handed out the first day of school), you may click here to print the Health Form , fill it out, and either mail to the band director at school or have your child bring it in.
• Does your child need more reeds? Cork grease? Valve oil? Any supplies? If you do not feel like running out to the music store, click here for the Instrumental Music Supply Form , fill out the form for needed supplies, add 8%tax and have your child bring it to school. These forms are also available at school.
• In order to send your child's instrument out for an estimate on a repair, your permission is required. Click here to print the Instrument Repair Form, fill it out, and send it to school with your child.
